What makes a skin cheap

  • Supply. Skins from old collections and common case grades exist in huge numbers. The P250 | Sand Dune had more than 3,500 Field-Tested listings on the Steam Market on 19 October 2026.
  • Wear. Every skin has a float value between 0 and 1 that decides its wear, from Factory New to Battle-Scarred. Worn copies are usually cheaper, but not always: the MAC-10 | Silver was cheaper in Factory New than in Minimal Wear.
  • StatTrak and Souvenir. These versions count kills or carry a tournament sticker and usually cost more than the normal skin.
  • Pattern. Each copy also has a pattern index from 0 to 1000. For most cheap skins it changes little, but for finishes such as Case Hardened a rare pattern can be worth far more than the skin's usual price.

Cheap skins and trade-ups

Cheap skins are also the raw material of CS2 trade-up contracts: ten skins of one grade go in, one skin of the next grade comes out, from the collection of one of the skins you used. The result is random and the ten skins are gone, so only buy for a trade-up if you know the possible outcomes. Five Covert skins can even be traded up for a knife or gloves; our list of the cheapest Covert skins has the prices, and the cheapest knife in CS2 shows what a knife costs when you simply buy it.

Should I sell cheap CS2 skins?

Yes, if you don't use them. A few cheap skins add up, and selling them is an easy way to fund a skin you actually want. Sell your CS2 skins to SkinCashier: log in with Steam, pick the items, and you see the price for each one in seconds, with the fees shown before you sell. Payouts go to PayPal or crypto. For CS2 items the payout is released after Steam's 7-day trade protection ends.
