Cheapest Butterfly Knife

Why these knives are so cheap

Two things set the price of a knife: the model and the finish.

• The model matters most. The cheapest Butterfly Knife costs more than twelve times the cheapest Shadow Daggers, although both come in the same plain camo finishes. Small or unusual models, such as the Shadow Daggers and the Navaja, sit at the bottom of the market.
• Plain finishes are the cheapest. Every knife in the table above has one of the simple original finishes: Safari Mesh, Forest DDPAT, Boreal Forest, Rust Coat, Black Laminate or Scorched.
• Wear matters less than on guns. For cheap knives, Battle-Scarred, Well-Worn and Field-Tested copies are often within a few dollars of each other. The Navaja | Safari Mesh cost the same $42.98 in Field-Tested and Battle-Scarred.

StatTrak versions are not always much more expensive at this level: a StatTrak ★ Gut Knife | Boreal Forest (Field-Tested) was listed at $52.98, one dollar above the normal one.

How to get a cheap knife

1. Buy it. The Steam Community Market or a third-party marketplace is the only way to get exactly the knife you want. Compare the lowest listing with the median: if they are far apart, the cheapest offer may be a one-off.
2. Open cases. Each case can drop a knife from its own set, but the drop is random and you pay for every case and key, so it is not a reliable way to get a cheap knife. Our guide to the best CS2 cases lists what each case contains.
3. Use a trade-up contract. Since the CS2 update of 22 October 2025, five Covert skins can be exchanged for a knife or gloves from the collection of one of the skins. The result is random, the five skins are gone, and at October 2026 prices even five of the cheapest Covert skins cost more than the cheapest knife on the market.
