Natural Drinking Water Sources
The easiest method of obtaining water to drink in Rust is to simply find a natural water source, which can provide you with an unlimited amount of water. With a natural water source in sight, dehydration is not much of a threat. You can drink straight from the source, or bring a water bottle or another container to store it for later. Not only that, you can also use natural water sources for many different uses, such as power generation and even fishing. So, why isn’t everyone doing it?
Well, that’s the thing. Areas near lakes and natural resources are some of the best in the game, rich in arious resources, allowing you to collect water, and us it for various other things such a fishing or power generation. Because of this you can expect other players to regularly visit the area. While not everyone will be immidiately hostile, you can expec that players in the Rust world would esily risk killing you over fresh water. This makes building a base near a natural water source a very difficult endavor, unless you’re ready for some hardcore Rust PvP.

Water Catchers
Water catchers are one of the essential building early on in any base in Rust. How to get water with them? All you need to do is build your water catchers in an open area, and they will simply continue to gather rainwater, which you can later drink straight from the source, or gather rainwater in an empty water bottle, or a water jug.
Water catchers can take quite a lot of resources, especially if you’re trying to build multiple of them, but its important to stay hydrated in the game, and having your own water source can make your Rust base more self-sufficient. In order to build a small water catcher, you’ll need 100 wood, 50 metal fragments and a single piece of cloth. To build a large water catcher you must have 500 wood, 200 metal pieces and two pieces of cloth.

Looting Water
While travelling and exploring Rust monuments you might stumble on plastic water bottles, Jerry cans and other liquid containers. You can also fill up a water bucket or virtually any other container with the river water found out in the wild. And while it can help you keep your hydration level while you need some water fast, drinking dirty water will make you sick, and can even kill you.
If you find or simply fill one of your containers with salt water, you won’t be able to simply drink it before you use a water purifier. As its name implies, a Water Purifier uses heat to boil dirty and salt water, which you can later store and drink. To build a water purifier you need one empty propane tank, 15 metal fragments and 10 cloth.
Water Pump
If you happen to build a base near any real water source, you might need a water filter before you can drink even a small amount collect water. If you positioned yourself near a seawater body or an ocean, a water pump is a msut have, as it can hep you with hydration, cooking food, and much, much more.
A water pump can be crafted with 200 Metal Fragments, 250 Wood and 1 Gear and has to be placed in a water body. When powered up, the water pump will continue to pump and filter the water into an attatched container, such as a water barrell. Although they can be suspictible to tampering, a water pump is the best way to get fresh drinking water in your own base.

Water Crops
Like in real life, you can grow water-giving crops in Rust, which you can later eat to get food, as well as hydration. Not all crop and food items will improve your hydration level the same, but with effecetive Rust farming you can not only feed yourself, but also get some water into your system.
Pumpkin and corn are some of the best crops you can grow in the game, as they provide you with both food, as well as some water. Cacti are another great source of water if you’re in the desert.
